I’m not going to lie, I love having hotel elite status. Unlike Airline status, hotel elite status comes with some perks that almost always come through. Room upgrades, free breakfast, late checkout and more are just about guaranteed with hotel status. That’s why I’m always happy when I’m able to stack promos to get elite status.

There’s a new opportunity to earn top tier Globalist status with the World of Hyatt program. This requires stacking some promos and some good timing, but follow along and I’ll show you how its done.

What Benefits Do You Get With Hyatt Globalist?

There’s a lot of great benefits that you get with Hyatt Globalist. For starters, you’ll receive an additional 30% for every dollar you spend at Hyatt hotels.

Now I know most of you, like me, aren’t paying cash rates for hotels. There’s a lot of benefits extended to you that apply on award stays as well.

For starters, you’re eligible for free room upgrades, including standard suites. You can extend your stay with late check out up to 4PM.

One of the best benefits that comes with Hyatt Globalist is free breakfast or free Club access at all Hyatt properties. There’s some properties, like the Park Hyatt Maldives, where this perk can save you over $100 per day.

If you are Hyatt Globalist you’ll also get free parking, even on award nights.

All these benefits aren’t limited to just you. You can designate someone a guest of honor and they can share your globalist benefits on their stay, even if you’re not traveling with them.

In short, you’ll get a nicer room, free breakfast, free parking, and you can share those benefits with others.

Considering Hyatt also has some of the lowest award rates out there, you may find yourself gravitating towards staying at Hyatts more than other hotels. Having Globalist status can really enhance your stays around the world.

How to Earn Hyatt Globalist Status for 2021 and 2022

Traditionally, earning Hyatt Globalist Status requires you to stay 60 nights or earn 100,000 base points (the equivalent of spending $20,000 in one year).

For 2021, Hyatt has reduced the requirements to earn Hyatt Globalist status. They’ve slashed the requirements in half. Now, instead of staying 60 nights you only need to stay 30 nights or earn 50,000 base points (spending $10,000 in one year).

Once earned, your status is good for the year you earn it and the following year. If you earn Hyatt Globalist in 2021 it will be good through February 28, 2023. Earning it early in the year means you can get over 2 years of upgrades, free breakfast, and other perks.

If you’re like many people, you may not be traveling much which makes even staying 30 nights hard. Well, there’s a few ways to help you get there a bit faster.

Award Nights Count Towards Elite Qualification

For starters, award nights count for elite qualification at Hyatt Hotels. You don’t need to spend cash to book 30 nights, you can instead use points.

Hyatt award nights start at just 5,000 points per night. That means you could easily earn Globalist status with just 150,000 World of Hyatt points.

I know that sounds like a lot, but we’re going to use this as our starting basis and slowly whittle it down from there. There’s a few ways to get there with less points, so follow along and see how you can earn Globalist status for next to nothing.

Step 1: Open the World of Hyatt Credit Card by December 31st

The first step that’s really going to help get you closer to 2 years of Hyatt Globalist is to open The World of Hyatt Credit Card by December 31st.

Typically, the World of Hyatt Credit Card offers 5 free elite nights every year. For a limited time, this is increased to 10 free elite nights towards World of Hyatt status for both 2020 and 2021.

This isn’t in lieu of points, you’ll also get 25,000 World of Hyatt points when you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months, and an additional 25,000 points after spending a total of $6,000 in the first 6 months.

So when you open the card you can get 50,000 points plus 10 elite nights. Keep in mind, elite nights aren’t free nights, they only count towards status.

With Hyatt reducing the amount of elite nights needed for Globalist status to 30 nights for 2021, you’ll already be ⅓ of the way there. Now you’ll just need an additional 20 nights. If you’re able to stay at a category 1 hotel that’s only 100,000 points (which is easier to get to since you also earned 50,000 points from the credit card).

Step 2: Register for Hyatt’s Bonus Journeys Promotion

The next step to earning Hyatt Globalist Status through February 2023 is to register for Hyatt’s Bonus Journeys Promotion.

You’ll have to register by January 15, 2021 to take advantage of this promotion, but what you get is pretty incredible. You’ll get 3X points on every qualifying stay, 4X points for every qualifying resort stay as a World of Hyatt Credit Card holder, and elite nights will count twice: once in the year you earn it and again in 2021.

All of these benefits will apply to stays completed by February 28, 2021.

Let’s focus on the elite nights counting twice. Here’s how it breaks down:

  1. You earn one elite qualifying night for every night of your stay during the promotional period
  2. For every elite qualifying night earned during the promotional period, you’ll get one extra elite qualifying night towards your status in 2021.

Since the promo extends into 2021, that means you can book a stay in January or February 2021 and you’ll effectively earn 2 elite qualifying nights towards your 2021 elite status.

For a quick math recap:

  • Hyatt reduced the amount of elite qualifying nights from 60 to 30 for 2021.
  • If you open the World of Hyatt Credit Card by December 31st, you’ll automatically get 10 elite qualifying nights towards your status in 2021 meaning you’ll only need 20 more elite qualifying nights.
  • Then, if you register for the Bonus Journeys promo you’ll get 2 elite qualifying nights for every night you stay during the promo period. Since you need 20 more, and you’ll get 2 for each night, you’ll only need to stay 10 nights during the promo period.

And 10 nights at a category 1 hotel only costs 50,000 World of Hyatt points per night. That’s the sign up bonus from your World of Hyatt Credit Card. If you’ve met the bonus, you can spend those points at a category one to receive Hyatt Globalist status for the remainder of 2021, all of 2022, and through February 28, 2023.

Even if you’re not eligible to open a new World of Hyatt Credit Card due to being over 5/24, or having received the bonus in the past 24 months, you’ll still only need 15 nights in a Category 1 hotel, which would only cost 75,000 points. Since you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt you can easily top off your account to quickly get to Globalist status.

If that wasn’t enough, it gets even better.

Step 3: Register for Hyatt’s 15-25% Points Rebate

Now that we know you’ll only need to stay 10-15 nights during the promotional period, and you can do these as award nights at a category 1 hotel for only 5,000 points per night, let’s take a look at how you can save even more points.

In addition to Hyatt’s Bonus Journeys promotion, you can also register for a points rebate on all award stays at Hyatt. Through this promotion, World of Hyatt members receive 15% of their points back on all award stays until February 28th, 2021. If you’re a World of Hyatt Credit Card holder you’ll get 25% of your points back.

You’ll need to register by January 15th, and honestly I’d just go ahead and register now. It’s pretty easy and will take 2 minutes of your time. That way, if you choose to chase down the easiest path to Globalist status ever, you’ll already be registered.

The only catch is the points are awarded as a rebate, not a discount. You won’t save up front, so if you don’t have the total amount of points in your account already you’ll need to transfer them from Chase.

Doing the math for you, if you open a new World of Hyatt Credit Card for the 10 free elite qualifying nights, and you register for the points rebate promotion you’ll get 12,500 points back. This means, in total, Globalist status only costs 37,500 points if you do it through a category 1 hotel.

Even if you don’t have the World of Hyatt Credit Card, you’d need to stay 15 nights in a category 1 hotel for 75,000 points. After the 15% rebate you’d only spend 63,750 points after getting the rebate.

Putting it All Together

I know that’s a lot to digest, but working strategically you can easily earn Hyatt Globalist status for about 2 years total. Let’s break it down step by step based on whether you’re opening a new card, an existing cardmember, or ineligible to open a new World of Hyatt Credit Card

Depending on your eligibility to open a new World of Hyatt Credit Card, you should only need anywhere from 37,500 to 63,750 Hyatt points to earn 2 years of Globalist Status. Even without the card it is still a significantly low amount of points to earn Globalist status for 2 years. Just remember, you’ll need your stay to be in January or February of 2021 to make this work right, and end by February 28, 2021.

How to Find Category 1 Hotels for The Promo

The biggest key to making this promo work is to find a category 1 hotel. If you already have a trip planned during the promo period then see if there’s a category 1 Hyatt in your destination.

If you’re planning to do this without going anywhere, doing it staycation style, here is a map showing all the category 1 Hyatt properties in the US. Those of you in the midwest, south, and the east coast will have the best luck finding some category 1 Hyatt hotels near you.

Look for Category 1 Hotels in the US offering Digital Check In

If you’re not near a category 1 Hyatt, look for one online that offers digital check-in. While it isn’t guaranteed that you won’t run into any problems, you can check in and check out remotely. When doing this strategy, I’d recommend breaking it up into 2 or 3 shorter stays instead of one, longer stay.

Final Thoughts

Hyatt Globalist comes with some great benefits such as free breakfast, free parking, and suite upgrades. By stacking some current promos you can head into 2021 with Globalist status that will last you until February 28, 2022.

Spending as low as 37,500 Hyatt points to earn Globalist status is an absolute steal. Even if you aren’t eligible to open a new World of Hyatt Credit Card and don’t have one already, you’ll only need 63,750 net points after all promos apply.

To put it into perspective, a one night standard suite redemption at a category 1 Hyatt costs an additional 3,000 points. At a category 7, it would cost an additional 18,000 points. For about the same price as upgrading to a suite at a category 7 for just 2 nights, you can earn Globalist status for 2 years that will make you eligible for the same suite upgrades at no additional cost.

Don’t miss this great opportunity for Globalist status and enjoy the perks!
